Austin Hays Reagan High School Football
Sleeper Spotlight: Austin Hays Wide Receiver, San Antonio Reagan High School
Mods: Thoughts on Austin Hays from SA Reagan (Russell Hays Kid)
Some have said Football in America is a national past time, but Football in Texas is a way of life.
If that is the case then Austin Hays is most definitely Texan.
Named to the All-Tournament Sunbelt Baseball League.
He is not only a gifted football player and wide receiver, but he has a passion for the game like few others his age. His love for the game, however, is in perspective with his academics and career aspirations. Impressive for someone so young.
Austin is seeking to advance his academic qualifications in partnership with his football aspirations with a great University. This info site has been established to respectfully submit pertinant facts for consideration by interested parties, and is a compilation of commentary from a number of sources.
Austin's outstanding abilities and physical attributes:
- 6' 3" and 185 lbs
- Ran an 11.0 second 100 meters this year.
- Ran a 4.48 second 40 and is improving.
- Very soft hands.
- Tremendous game instinct which allows him to run very efficient routes.
- Runs strong short and shallow routes and is the go to guy when it is time to move the chains.
- Mentally tough and very competitive.
- Has a 99.4 GPA and is a conscientious student.
- 5 stars out of 5 on the MTC (Move The Chains) rating system. MTC is a subjective rating system developed by a third party to rate the prospects of up and coming young players at the high school level.
- Tremendous hand-eye coordination.
- Our view on verticle routes is throw the ball and let the guy who is good enough to go get it. See highlight reel and photo on the left. The defensive back is over 6 feet tall.
- Meet Austin and you will immediately know him to be an outstanding, polite young man.
Austin Hays has hands sent from God, and he just does not drop passes, though this should come as no surprise given his pedigree. His father, Russell, played wide receiver for the Texas Longhorns, and his grandfather is listed in the Texas High School football Coaches Hall of Honor.
After an outstanding sophomore year, Austin broke a small bone in his foot in two-a-days and missed the first four games of the 2010 season and he came back five weeks shy of what the doctors had estimated it would take to heal. Considering his injury and the lingering effects, Austin had a very good year statistically, and he played with a great deal of heart. He is 100% healthy now.
Austin also runs track and plays baseball. He is a starting pitcher/outfielder for the Reagan Varsity baseball team and is 7 -1 so far this year. He had 12 strike outs and gave up zero runs against the highly touted Austin Bowie team in April.
He runs track to improve his speed and competitiveness. See pics on left.
